On Friday, April 21st 2017, the first ever 5k took place at Camp Utopia. Almost 200 registered runners converged, ready to test their skills and endurance. The purpose of the 5k was to “shine hope into darkness,” raising funds for the girls of Cota, Columbia. Various churches across Alabama worked and sponsored the event. This was truly a team effort. As groups arrived in tutus and glow-in-the dark paraphernalia the mood became electric. “On your mark, get set, go!” the race was on! People laughed or grumbled as they trudged up the dreaded boy’s hill. Speedsters encouraged those lagging. Some even carried young ones on their back when little legs grew tired. Cheers rang as runners crossed the finish line out of breath and glistening with the evidence of hard work. All in all, sponsors gave, organizers labored, musicians practiced, runners trained, the result… something beautiful. As one body Alabama came together and made a difference! Thank you to all who made Night Light 5k @ Utopia a reality. This was truly an effort that will cross borders and change lives. The total amount raised was $7,939.00.
“the people living in darkness have seen a great light;”

Our Purpose is to Empower Women…

  • to know Christ
  • to know who they are in Christ
  • to grow as leaders and mentors who disciple others
  • to act by giving their talents, money and time
  • to be the salt of the earth, the light of the world
  • to realize they are valued in God’s kingdom
  • to form small groups, uniting and sharing with women of like passions and interests
  • to strengthen their families and
  • to be God’s hands in the world.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20 NIV)

But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. (2 Corinthians 2:14-15 NIV)
